MASAI VILLAGE
OLKOKOLA
The Olkokola Maasai village is located just 15 km from Arusha town. It has one western-style house where volunteers can stay during their visit. The resident Maasai normally live in their traditional boma. There is no water or electricity and, the nearest source of water is about 2km distance and is transported by donkeys.
At Olkokola there is a local primary and secondary school and a hospital near which provide healthy services for the villages,although they has a hospital but professionals doctors are still a problem in Olkokola village hospitall ,volunteers who are interested or professionals they are warmly welcome,
Volunteers can join these schools teach english lessonsas they have shortage of englisg teachers,tech sports and to create after school activities .
Volunteers will help people in maasai village by use the simple strategies which will make them learn easily as many adults in maasai village dont use to go to school,they only believe that u will learn through their culture,for the maasai girls they always go to school for while then they quit early cause they have the culture of be married very young,so they realy need someone to offer them the knowledge of education for their future,as many get married only cause their parents force them or family
Volunteers will enjoy a maasai traditional dance with the moran around the village[moran means warriors]and even young girls called syangiki´ dance too,in this dance they all dress with their tradition costume and maasai beads
LENGIJAVE
Lengijave is situated just behind Olkokola, one big hill separates them.
Lengijave is more traditional village and there volunteers can stay in boma or walk over the hill to Olkokola house.
Lengijave has a local primary school and they are building kindergarten for the kids around the village,the village is trying to have as many school as they can have cause the maasai tribe people dont care about education.
Masai village activities
To make beads jewellery with Maasai women, leran the secret meanings of the different colours and styles, and find out about their day-to-day lives,as they wear them depends about age,engaged or married
Hike with one of the moran in village in the beatiful hills of olkokola and Lengijave and to discover some herbals around which the maasai people use as medicine everyday
To visit the traditonal elder laibon who can explain many types of herbals around and how to use some u can just use as tea,to share the traditional barbecue goat meat with their delicious herbals soup
These villages are less than hour trip from Arusha town and its very easy to go and return there with local buses `daladala 2000 Tanzanian shilling 2 usd ,and 4 minutes walk to the boma in Lengijave but Olkokla about 20 minutes

It is an area where the living conditions are very basic and hard. People and cattle will often share the same house It is a big amazing experience for volunteers .
In Masai village volunteers has do following things
• To take and to listen the instructions given around to avoid any harm
• To wear clothes that cover arms and legs especially in the evening to avoid mosquito
• To use water carefully as the water source is very far to reach
• To buy anything that they will require for their stay in Arusha beforehand as there is no bank or market nearby.
• To have more than one battery on their mobile phones as there is no power source nearbye
• To socialize with the masai people in their traditional way of life so that the learn more from their experience.
• To respect the masai tradition and culture as mens and women has some difference
